PROJECT: Limited Edition Holiday Packaging

The annual holiday sets are a highly anticipated tradition at Jack Black, and each year, they present their own set of challenges. Feedback from the marketing team, sales teams, retailers, and our own creative experiences from previous years is crucial in shaping the designs.

One of the creative mandates that emerged was the need to create sets with product cutouts, allowing customers to see as much of the product as possible. This presented the challenge of crafting a design that maintained a premium feel while working within the constraints of limited design space. Additionally, we needed to ensure the packaging felt festive for holiday gifting while remaining relevant on retail shelves through January. As part of the process, all designers on the team bring a concept to the table and the team chooses their favorite. In 2023, my design was chosen.

I sought to create something that would appeal to both the brand's core male audience and the women who often purchase these products as gifts. The objective was to produce packaging that was not only visually striking but also could sit proudly under the holiday tree without the need for wrapping. The design featured a rich navy blue background adorned with illustrated botanicals, paying homage to the rich ingredient stories of JB products and the greenery of the holiday season. Central to the design were diamond-shaped cutouts, a nod to the JB brand, which added a touch of elegance and uniqueness to the packaging.
